RSM licensing response timeframes

The RSM Licensing Team helps the industry use the radio spectrum and keeps records up to date in the Register of Radio Frequencies (RRF).

Each year, we process about 3,000 radio licence applications to make sure they follow the Legislation and Public Information Brochures (PIB)s. We also review special requests that allow new technologies to develop and benefit New Zealand.

We manage the RRF and make sure the application process are easy for radio engineers, certifiers, and operator certificate examiners to follow.

Some applications are quick to process, but others take longer if they are more complex. To help you plan and work with us, we’ve set the following response times:

  • Granting a licence: 5 working days after client confirmation.
  • General enquiries: 5 working days
  • Spectrum forms registration: 5 working days
  • RRF admin requests: 5 working days (e.g. Client/user updates)
  • Technical enquiries: Update within 15 working days
  • RRF technical issues: Update within 15 working days
